NCRN Partners
The National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI)The National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) is a partnership between the major cancer research funding bodies from the Government, charitable and private sectors. The development of the NCRI has enhanced the impact of the NCRN. NCRI provides a forum for the 15 partner organisations to coordinate their activities and develop a national strategy for cancer research. NCRI provides strategic oversight for both the NCRN and the National Translational Cancer Research Network, NTRAC. The NCRN has been working closely with the NCRI on a range of common issues that impact on the quality and development of cancer research, including establishing a comprehensive trials portfolio, developing a robust cancer research informatics infrastructure and the involvement of consumers in research. The NCRI Board is based in London and is chaired by Professor Alex Markham, the Administrative Director is Dr Jane Cope. ![]() National Cancer Research Institute The National Translational Cancer Research NetworkThe NCRI also provides strategic oversight for the National Translational Cancer Research Network (NTRAC). NTRAC coordinates the NHS infrastructure support for translational cancer research. The aim of NTRAC is to improve the development of new cancer treatments and diagnostics by enhancing the flow of new agents from laboratory bench to patient bedside and by helping to coordinate the testing of new agents in early phase clinical trials. The NTRAC Coordinating Centre is located in Oxford and is directed by Professor David Kerr. Fourteen centres, of scientific and clinical excellence in translational cancer research, have been awarded funding and NTRAC Network Centre status:
Each centre receives approximately £1 million funding over five years to build infrastructure and workforce capability. ![]() National Translational Cancer Research Network Other NCRN PartnersClose collaboration is also being developed with the various national cancer clinical research initiatives in other countries, particularly with the Wales Cancer Trials Network, with Northern Ireland, with the Cancer Research Networks in Scotland, with the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) and with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in the US and the National Cancer Institute of Canada (NCIC).
