This section provides information about the NCRN Portfolio, which types of study are included in the portfolio and how new studies can be included in the portfolio. Click here for more information. The NCRN database has been developed which lists the studies within the NCRN Portfolio, together with details of the study design and contact information for the relevant trials unit coordinating the study. The database is available here. Research Governance and the new regulations governing the conduct of clinical trials in Europe are of key importance to all those involved with NCRN portfolio trials. We have included a section, entitled Research Governance on the EU Clinical Trials Directive to provide basic guidance and links to essential documents. One major aim of the NCRN was to double the number of patients in England entered into cancer clinical trials. This increased activity impacts on clinical trials units throughout the UK, and the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) has given the NCRN a remit to ensure that this is supported and that systems are established to meet the demands of increased recruitment and increased numbers of cancer trials. As part of this remit, the NCRN Coordinating Centre conducted a Strategic Review of the Trials Units which conduct cancer clinical trials supported or funded by any member of the NCRI. Contact details for the cancer Trials Units/Offices involved in the review can be found here. The Strategic Review resulted in a process for accrediting Clinical Trials Units. There are currently nine NCRI-Accredited Trials Units and these are highlighted on the list of Trials Units/Offices. These Trials Units are the preferred route by which future NCRI-funded cancer trials should be coordinated. | ||||||||||||
