Training and Education for the
Clinical Research Team

The NCRN training programme is intended to be widely accessible. The majority of courses are offered at least once per calendar year in a range of regional locations: North (Leeds or Manchester), Midlands (Birmingham, Sheffield, Derby or Leicester), South East (Oxford or London) and South West (Bristol or Exeter) and South (Brighton or Southampton). Demand for these courses is regularly monitored and where possible the number of available places on individual courses will be increased. NCRN courses are available to members of the Cancer Clinical Research Team and Trials Unit staff working on the NCRN portfolio of trials, including non-NCRN funded staff. The NCRN trials portfolio currently comprises more than 200 cancer clinical studies supported by an NCRI member, and other national or large local studies adopted into the portfolio.

All NCRN courses are offered free of charge to members of the Cancer Clinical Research Team. Individual Networks are expected to pay travelling and other additional expenses incurred by staff. We ask that cancellations are made at the earliest opportunity so that we can reassign the training place. Failure to do this could incur a charge which will be personally payable. For copies of our policies regarding booking and cancelling places on courses, please see the following links:

The NCRN is investigating the possible accreditation of a number of the NCRN Training Courses. All introductory level training courses will be submitted to the Royal Collage of Nursing (RCN) for accreditation in relation to the number of hours of study undertaken during the early part of 2004. A submission has already been made to the Royal College of Physicians for accreditation in relation to both the introductory and advanced GCP courses from 1st January. Accreditation for the advanced GCP course will also be obtained from the RCN. New courses will be accredited, through appropriate professional organisations, as they are added to the programme.

The NCRN’s Training and Education Programme is subject to regular review and development, in response to the needs of the Cancer Clinical Research Team therefore the range and frequency of courses is likely to change from year to year.
